    SARAJEVO TO MOSTAR

    Sarajevo to Mostar

    A Scenic Balkan Adventure

This 195 km drive winds through Bosnia and Herzegovina’s dramatic landscapes, combining Ottoman history, emerald rivers, and cliffside roads. The journey takes 2.5–3 hours but allow extra time for stops!

Begin in Sarajevo, Bosnia’s capital, where Ottoman bazaars meet Austro-Hungarian architecture. Fuel up and grab a burek (savory pastry) before heading southwest on the M17 (E73) highway.

    Key Stops & Highlights

    1. Konjic. Old Stone Bridge: A 17th-century Ottoman bridge over the turquoise Neretva River.
    2. Boračko Lake. A glacial lake surrounded by pine forests. Swim or picnic here in summer.
    3. Glavatičevo Village: A serene pit stop with traditional stone houses and river views.
    4. Jablanica. Museum of the Battle for the Wounded: Learn about WWII’s Battle of Neretva.
    5. Blagaj Tekke. A 16th-century Dervish monastery nestled at the base of a cliff, where the Buna River springs from a cave.

Arrive in Mostar, famed for its UNESCO-listed Stari Most (Old Bridge). Watch daredevils dive into the Neretva River or wander the cobblestone Ottoman quarter.

    Tips for the Drive

    1. Road Conditions: The M17 is well-paved but narrow and winding—watch for trucks and sharp curves.
    2. Fuel/Meals: Fill up in Sarajevo or Konjic; try roadside trout (pastrva) near Jablanica.
    3. Season: Spring–fall for best weather. Winter may bring snow (carry chains).
