Begin and end in Great Bend, a gateway town named for its location on the Arkansas River’s curve. Fuel up and grab snacks here before heading into the rural byway.

Key Stops & Highlights

1. Cheyenne Bottoms Wildlife Area. One of the largest inland marshes in the U.S., attracting 500,000+ shorebirds annually. Walk the observation decks or drive the 5-km auto tour route. Best in spring (April–May) and fall (Sept–Oct) for migrations.
