Circling Washington’s most rugged peaks, the North Cascades Loop (Cascade Loop) blends glacier-carved valleys, alpine meadows, and charming towns. This 440-mile route weaves through North Cascades National Park, the Methow Valley, and Bavarian-style villages, offering a taste of the Pacific Northwest’s wild beauty.

Begin in Everett, 30 miles north of Seattle. Fuel up and grab supplies before heading east on Highway 2 or north on I-5 to Highway 20.

2. Diablo Lake Overlook: Turquoise waters framed by snow-capped peaks. Learn about hydroelectric history at the North Cascades Environmental Learning Center.
3. Washington Pass: Stop at 5,477 ft for views of Liberty Bell Mountain, a rock-climbing mecca.
4. Winthrop. A Western-themed town with wooden boardwalks. Ride the Methow Valley Trail, sample huckleberry treats, or raft the Methow River.
5. Lake Chelan. Take a ferry to Stehekin, a remote lakeside village accessible only by boat or hike. Swim, wine-taste at local vineyards, or kayak the 50-mile fjord-like lake.
6. Leavenworth. A Bavarian-inspired village with Oktoberfest celebrations, alpine lodges, and the Nutcracker Museum. Hike the Icicle Gorge Trail or sip local brews at Icicle Brewing Company.
7. Stevens Pass. Cross this 4,061-ft mountain pass (Highway 2) for waterfall hikes like Bridal Veil Falls or winter skiing.
